Schools Closed for 3 Days
Schools closed in some districts of North Carolina for 3 days due to weather conditions. Students across multiple districts in North Carolina, including Guilford County, have been learning remotely since last Thursday due to unsafe road conditions. For many, the prolonged closure has sparked confusion and frustration.
Guilford County Schools reported that 30% of secondary roads remain unsafe for buses and teen drivers. Remote learning has temporarily replaced traditional classes, evoking memories of the pandemic for many students.
Other districts, including Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, opted to cancel classes entirely.
Guilford County Schools confirmed that maintenance teams have worked to clear campuses and are coordinating with local municipalities and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to address road concerns
The state permits only five remote learning days per year, and Tuesday marked the third for Guilford County Schools. It remains unclear when students will resume in-person learning or how the district will address additional closures if remote days are exhausted. The district has assured families that updates will be provided as decisions are made.
Schools closed in East Tennessee
Also, many schools in East Tennessee announced the closure on January 15 while some announced that they will be opening 2 to 3 hours late. The schools closing is mainly due to lingering ice on the roads from last Friday’s winter storm.
Most of the roads in rural area are icy and treacherous due to snow. Also the delay in rescue activities and sun rays not reaching to these roads have caused the delay in reopening these roads.
