SCC holds a genuinely unique distinction: it is the only non-tribal two-year public higher education institution in the nation whose campus is located on tribal land, situated within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) under a 99-year lease. In direct connection to that relationship, SCC offers tuition waivers for enrolled SRPMIC members and dedicated American Indian Program (AIP) scholarships, alongside a full suite of cultural and academic support through the Indigenous Cultural Center. For any eligible American Indian applicant, especially SRPMIC members, this isn't a generic diversity-office resource - it's a structural, dollar-relevant benefit tied specifically to SCC's history and location, and should be raised explicitly and early rather than left for the student to discover after enrolling.

SCC's nursing program is part of MaricopaNursing, a shared consortium admission pathway offered across eight Maricopa Community Colleges (Chandler-Gilbert, Estrella Mountain, GateWay, Glendale, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, and Scottsdale), meaning a single nursing curriculum and admissions framework spans multiple campuses. Critically, applications will not be accepted without a copy of a Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card already in hand - this isn't a post-acceptance formality, it's a hard prerequisite to submitting the application at all, and processing can take real time. A student should start the fingerprint clearance process as soon as they're seriously considering the nursing program, well before assembling the rest of the HESI A2 scores and prerequisite transcripts, since a delayed clearance card can push an otherwise-ready applicant into the next admission cycle entirely.

SCC hosts NAU-Scottsdale on its campus and offers SCC2NAU, a joint admission program with Northern Arizona University that allows a student to be simultaneously admitted to both institutions from the start of their community college studies. For a student who already knows they want a bachelor's degree - whether in nursing, a related health science, or another NAU program - enrolling in SCC2NAU from day one creates continuity of advising and a smoother transfer runway than waiting until the associate degree is nearly finished to think about a four-year plan.

Outside of health sciences, SCC's academic programs (including well-known offerings in Motion Picture/Television Productions, Culinary Arts, and American Indian Studies) follow standard Maricopa open admission. Nursing is the clear exception, requiring the HESI A2 entrance exam with a program-determined minimum score, specific prerequisite coursework (Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, College Mathematics, English Composition) completed with a "C" or better, and a full health/safety and background-check compliance package before the application is even reviewed.
