Ventura College Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Starting Fall 2026, Ventura College participates in UC's expanded Transfer Pathways (now covering majors like Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Data Science, and Statistics), and the "Pathways+" structure combines the admissions security of a TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) at one of six eligible UC campuses with strong major preparation that also positions a student well for transfer to non-TAG UC campuses in the same major. A student in a newly-eligible Pathways major should ask a counselor specifically about Pathways+ rather than choosing a TAG campus or a Transfer Pathway major in isolation, since combining both gives broader flexibility than either alone.

The UC TAG application opens specifically September 1-30 (a 30-day window distinct from the general UC application period of August 1-December 1), and only six of the nine UC campuses (Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz) accept TAG at all - Berkeley, UCLA, and San Diego do not participate. A Ventura College student eligible for TAG must complete both the TAG application in September and the separate general UC application later by December 1; missing the narrower September TAG window doesn't disqualify a student from UC altogether, but it does forfeit the admission guarantee for that target campus.

Ventura's UC transfer policy states that duplicate credit is never awarded for both the honors and regular versions of the same course (credit goes only to the first course completed with a C or better), and repeat eligibility for a previously low-graded course (D+, D, D-, F, NP, or C-) follows specific sequencing rules - a student cannot repeat a lower-level course in a sequence (chemistry, math, languages) if they've already earned a D- or higher in a higher-level course in that same sequence. A student considering retaking a course to improve a UC application should check these sequencing and duplication rules with a counselor first, since an attempted retake that violates them won't earn the intended grade-replacement benefit.

Students who meet specific California residency-adjacent criteria (regardless of immigration status, with some exceptions for certain visa types) can be exempt from nonresident tuition not just at Ventura College but at the UC and CSU systems as well - a system-wide benefit, not just a community-college-level accommodation. A student or family uncertain about eligibility should confirm status with Ventura's Dreamers/admissions office specifically, since this exemption follows the student through transfer rather than needing to be re-established at each institution.
