Harford Community College Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Harford's nursing program doesn't rank applicants by GPA alone - it uses a specific point formula combining your best score from ACT, TEAS, or HESI A2 (taken within the past 5 years) plus GPA points plus points earned in BIO 137, BIO 139, and BIO 225, plus a flat 5 points for completing 12 graded college credit hours. Have students run this calculation with an advisor well before the application window (Nov 15?Feb 15 for summer/fall; through Sept 15 for spring) so they know exactly which lever - test score or coursework - will move their total the most.

Nursing applicants must satisfy Harford's math requirement through one of four specific routes: a qualifying score on Harford's own math placement test (valid 2 years), a 530 SAT math / 21 ACT score (valid 2 years), completing Harford's highest transitional math course (025/026/027), or completing a college-level general-education math course with a C or better. Because this requirement is easy to overlook amid the science prerequisites, have students confirm which path they're using in their first semester, not their last.

Harford states plainly that students under a 2.50 GPA on nursing-applicable coursework are ineligible to apply at all, but also that most students actually admitted carry above a 3.0 - and repeating a course is discouraged unless it reflects genuine skill-building rather than a strategic grade chase. Counsel students to treat 2.5 as the bare minimum to submit an application, not a realistic admission target.

Harford ranks nursing applicants by point total for each specific admission cycle; if a student isn't offered a seat, they are not held over - the ranking process restarts fresh for the next cycle. A student who narrowly misses the cutoff should be advised to actively strengthen their point total (retake a placement exam, complete more graded credit hours) before reapplying rather than assuming a wait-and-see approach will eventually pay off.
