Henry Ford College Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

HFC primarily places students using High School GPA and SAT/ACT scores (PSAT accepted for dual-enrollment students) rather than defaulting everyone to Accuplacer testing. Submit your strongest existing transcript and any test scores you already have BEFORE your advising appointment - if HFC can place you off existing records, you skip a testing appointment entirely and move straight to registration.

HFC's structure trips up students every cycle: you cannot declare "Nursing AAS" as your program of study at general admission. You must apply and be admitted as "Pre-Nursing," complete prerequisites, sit the NAT (Nursing Admission Test, built on the HESI platform) at HFC's School of Nursing computer lab, and only then formally enter Nursing AAS. Select Pre-Nursing on your initial HFC application and treat the NAT as a second, later, separate admission event.

HFC ranks Nursing applicants by a calculated application score combining prerequisite-course GPA (2.7 minimum, but the program explicitly states higher GPAs are recommended for competitiveness) with NAT results. Since there's no waitlist and no carryover - an incomplete or under-scored application must be resubmitted from scratch next cycle - sit your prerequisite courses early enough that your GPA is finalized and strong well before the May 30 (fall) or Sept 30 (winter) submission window, rather than finishing prerequisites the same term you apply.

HFC requires nursing/placement test-takers to check in 2 hours before the Welcome Center closes, and importantly, ALL general placement testing is suspended on Nursing Admission Test days until 12:30 pm. If you're testing for general course placement (not nursing), call ahead or check the schedule before driving to campus - showing up on a NAT-priority morning means your placement test won't run until early afternoon.
