MPTC is open enrollment, but several high-demand programs (notably Nursing) route accepted students through a separate three-stage waitlist: Pre-Core (general education while meeting academic-preparedness criteria), Core Ready (criteria met, waiting for a program spot), and Core Active (enrolled). Your waitlist date is set by your date of admission acceptance - not your application date - and residency status affects priority order within the queue; out-of-state applicants are not accepted into programs that already have a waitlist. Complete every admission step (transcripts, placement testing, background check if required) as fast as possible once you decide on a waitlisted program, since your position in line is locked in by how quickly you finish admission, not by how early you first inquired.

Accuplacer/ACT/GED placement testing is automatically waived for applicants with a 3.0 or higher high school GPA or an existing associate degree or higher. Since your waitlist date for competitive programs is tied to how fast you complete the admission process, submitting a qualifying transcript up front to skip the testing step - rather than scheduling and waiting for a testing appointment - can shave real time off your position in the Pre-Core queue for programs like Nursing.

MPTC holds a formal guaranteed-admission agreement with UW-Milwaukee (signed 2024): graduates of MPTC's Associate of Arts/Science degrees transfer a guaranteed 60 credits and enter UWM with junior standing through a brief intent form rather than a full admission application. Similar direct transfer agreements with junior standing exist with UW-Oshkosh, UW-Green Bay, Lakeland University, and Ripon College. If your goal is a bachelor's degree, deliberately choose MPTC's University Transfer AA or AS track (built around the UW System's Universal Credit Transfer Agreement gen-ed requirements) rather than a narrow technical AAS, since the guaranteed junior-status agreements are structured around that specific transfer degree.

Starting with the 2026 academic year, Wisconsin's 16 technical colleges, including Moraine Park, now review apprenticeship-related learning from any source - not just registered Wisconsin apprenticeships - as Credit for Prior Learning, fast-tracking eligible apprentices toward an Applied Associate degree. Students who already have trade experience or apprenticeship hours (even informal or out-of-state) should request a formal Credit for Prior Learning evaluation before enrolling in overlapping coursework - this is a genuinely new policy most incoming students and even some advisors won't yet default to mentioning.
