BSN and LVN-to-BSN admission requires a HESI composite score of 76 or higher - below 76 is an outright denial, not a waitlist. Applicants get a maximum of two attempts, one week apart; a failed second attempt triggers a mandatory 6-month wait plus documented proof of remediation before retesting. Given the one-week gap between attempts, treat your first sitting as the one that counts rather than planning to "learn from" it.

Instead of the HESI, WCU also accepts a TEAS score of 52 or higher (raised from 43 for students starting Fall I 2025 onward) or an SAT of 835+/ACT of 16+ (verbal and quantitative sections only, within the last three years). If you already hold a qualifying TEAS or SAT/ACT score, you can skip the HESI exam - and its retake-wait penalty - entirely. Confirm this with admissions before scheduling a HESI sitting you may not need.

Once a cohort reaches enrollment capacity, WCU can still admit applicants as "Alternate Students," who attend during the Add/Drop period on a trial basis. Alternates aren't eligible for federal Title IV financial aid until a seat is confirmed (though aid becomes retroactive once it is). If no seat opens by the end of Add/Drop, the Alternate's enrollment is canceled and they're rolled into the next available cohort. Ask directly whether you're being offered a confirmed seat or Alternate status before making housing or work-schedule commitments.

After finishing general education prerequisites, seats in the Nursing (Core) Component are assigned by ranking students' cumulative GPA when there are more qualified students than available seats. Students who don't make the cutoff aren't rejected outright - they're withdrawn and placed in the next available cohort start date. Keep raising your GPA past the minimum bar throughout Pre-Nursing, since your ranking position at the Core transition, not just eligibility, determines whether you start on schedule.
