STAAR EOC 2025: Syllabus, Dates and Preparation Tools

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) End-of-Course (EOC) assessments are standardized tests administered to high school students in Texas. These assessments evaluate students’ mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for specific courses and are integral to determining college and career readiness. This ensures that all high school students meet the minimum standards set by the authorities.

Appearing in STAAR test is mandatory for all students in Texas. Students must pass five specific EOC assessments, Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History—to fulfill graduation requirements as stipulated by the Texas Education Code §39.025.

These assessments are designed to evaluate students’ mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each course. Passing these exams is essential for earning a high school diploma from a Texas public or charter school.

While the STAAR EOC assessments are mandatory, there are provisions for students who face challenges in passing them. For instance, students who fail no more than two of the required EOC assessments may be eligible to graduate through an Individual Graduation Committee (IGC), which evaluates the student’s overall academic performance and may require additional projects or assessment

This comprehensive guide provides detailed information on the STAAR EOC assessments, including their structure, syllabus, schedule, and frequently asked questions.

What Are STAAR Test Assessments?

STAAR EOC assessments are mandatory for high school students enrolled in the following courses:

  • English I
  • English II
  • Algebra I
  • Biology
  • U.S. History

These assessments are designed to measure students’ understanding of the TEKS for each course. Students must achieve at least the “Approaches Grade Level” standard on each EOC assessment to fulfill graduation requirements. If a student does not pass an assessment, they are required to retake it until they meet the passing standard.

STAAR EOC Overview

The STAAR End-of Course (EOC) assessments will test a high school student’s mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a given course, and determine college and career readiness. If a student is enrolled in grade 8 or below and is taking a course for which there is a STAAR EOC assessment, that student will be required to take the applicable STAAR EOC assessment.
