CUNY LaGuardia Community College (LaGuardia) Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

CUNY ASAP, which originated at LaGuardia, requires committing to a full-time block schedule in an approved Liberal Arts or Business Administration major and agreeing to graduate within three years, in exchange for tuition waivers, free textbooks, and monthly MetroCards. This decision needs to be made at enrollment, not added later - a student already on a part-time or self-paced schedule can't simply opt into ASAP's structure mid-stream.

The CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) is specifically for students already accepted to a CUNY college whose first language isn't English; it requires taking the Accuplacer and can run up to four sessions (one year) before starting credit-bearing coursework. F-1 visa international students are explicitly not eligible for CLIP - international students with English language needs should be directed toward different resources, not CLIP specifically.

LaGuardia caps transferable credit at a maximum of 30 credits toward an associate degree (50% of required credits for certificate programs), with a grade of C or better generally required for credit to transfer. A student arriving with significant prior college credit, especially from outside CUNY, should have their transcript evaluated early so they understand which credits will count before building a course plan around an inflated estimate.

LaGuardia's academic calendar designates priority registration windows for veterans, ASAP students, international students, athletes, College Discovery students, and accessibility students. A student in one of these categories who doesn't realize priority registration applies to them risks losing out on preferred course sections to students who register during the general window.
