Instead of a standard personal essay, BJU's application asks for a written personal profession of faith. Because BJU identifies explicitly with historic biblical Fundamentalism and evaluates applications for genuine alignment with its Creed, this should read as an authentic, specific salvation testimony grounded in your actual church life - not a general statement about being a good or spiritual person. Vague, values-only language is the most common way a sincere applicant unintentionally weakens this part of the file.

BJU requires two confidential recommendations: one from a pastoral staff member at your church (who cannot be a relative) and one from a school official - with specific substitution rules for homeschoolers and students who haven't attended school in the last 12 months. Pastors are often the slowest link in the process simply due to their schedules; reach out to yours weeks before you plan to submit so the recommendation isn't the bottleneck holding up an otherwise-complete application.

Unlike many conservatory-style programs, BJU's music auditions (required of every student who wants lessons or ensemble placement, majors and non-majors alike) happen in person on campus during Welcome Week and the first week of classes - not as part of the application. If you're a prospective music student, don't waste time searching for a video-submission process; instead arrive prepared to play/sing live for placement, and know that even non-majors can audition for choirs, band, and orchestra.

BJU's admission committee often returns a decision within about a week of a complete file, and acceptance is followed quickly by a $250 enrollment deposit (refundable only if canceled before May 1), an immunization form, and the FAFSA. Because the whole cycle moves faster than many students expect from a factor as significant as choosing a college, treat admission notification as the start of a short, active checklist rather than a finish line.
