Midlands Technical College (MTC) Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

MTC offers a distinct "Merit Admission" pathway to nursing requiring just ONE of three qualifying conditions: a 3-year-valid SAT of 1000+ (with minimum verbal 500/math 580), an ACT composite of 20+ (minimum verbal 20/math 24), OR completion of an 8-course Pre-Nursing Certificate with a 2.75+ GPA and no grade below C, OR already holding an associate's degree or higher with a 2.75+ GPA. A student with strong standardized test scores from years ago, even outside a typical "current" testing window, should check if those scores still fall within the stated validity period, since a qualifying older test score could be a faster admission route than the standard competitive application process entirely.

MTC explicitly caps prerequisite course repeats at one repeat per course AND a maximum of two total repeated prerequisite courses across the ENTIRE application history, counting coursework taken at MTC or ANY other post-secondary institution. A student who has already used up repeat attempts at a prior institution, even one unrelated to MTC, needs to track this cumulative total carefully - a third repeat attempt anywhere in their history (not just at MTC) can disqualify them from applying at all.

MTC's nursing applications are released specifically when a student's advisor determines they will or should meet eligibility requirements by the open application window (January 15-May 15 for Fall starts) - submitting outside this advisor-confirmed timing, even if done in good faith, results in the application simply not being reviewed at all. A student should treat the advisor confirmation step as a mandatory gate BEFORE submission, not a parallel or optional check-in.

Starting Summer 2024, MTC requires required math and biology courses to be completed within 5 years of beginning NUR 134/203 specifically (not the general application date) - a relatively recent policy change. A returning student with older coursework should calculate this window against their actual anticipated NUR 134/203 start date, and should confirm this is still the current policy given it was a deliberate, dated change rather than a longstanding rule.
