CNU's President's Leadership Program and Honors Program are separate, interview-required scholarship tracks layered on top of general admission, each with its own mandatory supplemental essay and its own academic bar (Honors wants roughly a 3.75 GPA and 1310 SAT/28 ACT if submitting scores; PLP sits slightly lower at 3.5 GPA and 1250 SAT/26 ACT). Because both require scheduling an interview and both carry a December 15 priority deadline, students interested in either should select "Yes" for the relevant program in the Common App's Scholarships section and book the interview slot as soon as applications open - waiting until the February 15 final deadline means competing for what's left after priority admits are already seated.

CNU's admission review explicitly looks at year-to-year GPA trends - whether a student had a rocky ninth grade, an upward trajectory, or a downward slope - and invites applicants with a glaring inconsistency to explain it directly in the Common App's additional information section rather than leaving it for the reader to guess at. Students with an atypical grade pattern (a difficult freshman year, a pandemic-disrupted semester, a documented personal circumstance) should write a short, factual explanation here rather than assuming a strong senior year alone will resolve the reader's question.

Unlike most CNU majors, which apply through the standard Common App with the general essay, prospective music majors must complete a distinct application and audition process - and are explicitly not required to submit the Arts Supplement that other arts applicants use. Students planning to major in music should contact the music department directly to confirm audition dates and repertoire requirements well before the general admission deadline, since audition scheduling operates on its own timeline separate from the Common App review.

CNU frames its optional interview as a low-stakes 30-minute conversation with a staff member (often a recent CNU graduate) rather than a formal evaluation, available to seniors from June through March, and registration opens 30 days in advance. Because CNU's review is explicitly holistic and looks beyond GPA and test scores, students who feel their numbers don't fully represent them should book this interview specifically to give the admissions committee context a transcript can't provide - this is a genuinely underused lever relative to how many applicants skip it.
