East Los Angeles College Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

ELAC's Honors Program certification requires five honors courses completed with a 3.0 GPA in those courses and a 3.0 cumulative GPA - and certified students transferring to UCLA through the Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) have posted admit rates around 81% versus roughly 26% for non-TAP applicants in recent cycles. That gap is large enough that any ELAC student aiming at UCLA should enroll in the Honors Program (apply through a counselor) in their very first semester, since the program penalizes students who go several consecutive terms without an honors course.

ELAC is one of only ten California community colleges selected for UCLA's new Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) Pilot Program (AB 1291), launching for Fall 2026 admission, which gives priority review to students completing an approved ADT in one of several initial majors. This is brand-new and major-specific - a counselor should check whether the student's intended major is on the current pilot list before building a transfer plan around it, since it won't apply to every program.

Separately from the UCLA pilot, completing an AA-T or AS-T at ELAC guarantees admission to *some* CSU campus (not necessarily the specific campus or impacted major desired), and can carry a GPA boost when applying to an impacted CSU major elsewhere. Have the student declare the ADT-aligned major as early as possible - financial aid and registration holds kick in if they hit 15 units without a declared transfer-aligned educational plan.

UCLA's TAP program (which ELAC participates in) no longer certifies students who transfer after only one year post-high-school - a rule that's tightened in recent cycles. A student planning a fast, one-year ELAC stint before transferring should know upfront they won't qualify for TAP's priority consideration, even with a strong honors GPA, and should plan for the standard two-year timeline if TAP access matters to them.
