Columbus State Community College (CCAD) Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Launched in spring 2026, Buckeye Bridge is a partnership between Columbus State and The Ohio State University that gives eligible Columbus State associate degree graduates guaranteed admission to OSU's Columbus campus with all tuition and mandatory fees waived for up to eight semesters - enough to complete a full bachelor's degree. To qualify: be an Ohio resident, file FAFSA annually by OSU's priority deadline (February 1), transfer to OSU within three semesters of graduating Columbus State, and maintain full-time enrollment with satisfactory academic progress. Family adjusted gross income must be $100,000 or less. You must also submit a Buckeye Bridge Intent Form (available from March 2, 2026; allow 10 business days for processing). This is not a theoretical program - more than 1,000 students per year already transfer from Columbus State to OSU; Buckeye Bridge makes those transfers tuition-free for qualifying students starting with Spring 2026 Columbus State graduates. Columbus State has Preferred Pathway agreements with nine regional universities that provide pre-major course sequences, access to advisors from the target university, and guaranteed admission and credit transfer when you complete the aligned associate degree. The 75 specialized 2+2 pathways with Ohio State - the largest transfer partnership in the state - mean that for most OSU majors, there is a specific Columbus State course sequence already mapped for you. Take it from the first semester. Students who choose courses without consulting the pathway consistently discover that credits transferred but didn't count toward their intended OSU major, adding an extra semester at OSU's full tuition rate.

Columbus State's Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees embed the Ohio Transfer 36 - a statewide general education framework recognized by all Ohio public colleges and universities and many private ones. Students who complete an AA or AS at Columbus State carry the Ohio Transfer 36 designation on their transcript, which means their general education requirements are cleared at any Ohio public four-year institution without a course-by-course review. Students in career-focused AAS programs should separately confirm which of their courses count toward the Transfer 36 - AAS degrees are designed for employment, and their gen ed integration varies by program. The Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathway (OGTP) designation at Columbus State means certain programs include a pre-arranged sequence that also meets major requirements at the receiving university - not just general education.

The Columbus Promise covers tuition and mandatory fees for graduates of Columbus City Schools who enroll at Columbus State, plus a $500-per-semester stipend for supplemental costs. The program is a partnership among the City of Columbus, Columbus State, and education nonprofit I Know I Can. At the end of 2025, the Columbus city budget did not include funding for the initiative, creating uncertainty about long-term sustainability - but Columbus Promise is committed to its next two graduating cohorts.
