Utah State University Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Utah State's academic scholarships are determined by a scholarship index combining your unweighted GPA and ACT/SAT scores, and automatic consideration requires submitting a completed application by December 1. For resident students, the Presidential Scholarship covers 100% of tuition and fees for four years; the Deans Scholarship provides $7,000/year for four years. For non-residents, the Presidential again covers 100% of tuition; the Deans award is $24,000 in year one and $7,000 in year two. Below these tiers, the Merit and 100-Mile Radius scholarships provide $11,500 for one year (the first year of a planned Utah residency path). If you don't submit test scores, you must request a Comprehensive Scholarship Review by January 10 - this uses GPA, course rigor, and other criteria instead. Academic scholarships from USU's admissions office cannot generally be combined (stacked) with each other, but they can be combined with National Merit awards, Sterling Scholar awards, and involvement scholarships.

Out-of-state students from the 16 WUE-participating western states can attend USU at 150% of Utah in-state tuition - approximately $11,400/year rather than the full $24,000+ non-resident rate. High-qualifying WUE students also receive an additional $3,500/year WUE+ scholarship on top. However, you cannot establish Utah residency while using WUE: the two paths are mutually exclusive. Students who think they'll use WUE for two years and then switch to in-state tuition discover this is not permitted. If your plan is to establish Utah residency (which takes 12 continuous months and several documentation steps), the better strategy is USU's one-year non-resident scholarship paired with the residency pathway. Decide before fall semester starts - once classes begin, you cannot switch.
