Solano Community College (Solano College) Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Unlike the vast majority of community college nursing programs (which rank applicants by GPA/TEAS/points), Solano's generic Associate Degree in Nursing class is drawn through a COMPUTERIZED LOTTERY among all eligible applicants who meet minimum prerequisites - meaning a student's academic strength beyond the eligibility floor does NOT improve their odds of selection in a given cycle. Solano's own materials state first-year lottery odds have historically run around 65% or better, improving in subsequent application years for repeat applicants. A family should understand that "doing everything right" academically doesn't increase lottery odds the way it would under a points system - meeting the bar IS the strategy here, not exceeding it.

Solano explicitly states that, effective June 12, 2017, the RN Program suspended accepting NEW applications for the dedicated LVN-to-RN Advanced Placement cohort, and that LVNs are now only admitted into the program on a SPACE-AVAILABLE basis with average placement odds historically below 20% over five years - a dramatically worse position than the generic ADN lottery's ~65%. Solano's own guidance for current LVNs explicitly recommends applying through the GENERIC ADN lottery instead (entering as a first-semester student with no advanced placement), since those odds are more than three times better than waiting for an LVN-specific space-available opening.

Solano's registration priority is explicitly lost at the first registration opportunity after a student is placed on academic OR progress probation for two CONSECUTIVE fall or spring semesters, OR has earned 90+ degree-applicable semester units at Solano specifically (ESL and basic skills units excluded from this count). A student stacking multiple certificates or repeatedly changing majors while working toward nursing prerequisites should track their accumulating Solano-specific unit count against this 90-unit ceiling, since exceeding it costs registration priority right when timely access to prerequisite sections matters most.

Solano explicitly states that when a waitlisted seat opens, students have exactly 48 HOURS to register before losing the spot, with notification sent ONLY to the student's official Solano email address - no text, no phone call, no secondary notification method. A student on any waitlist (nursing prerequisite courses especially) should check their Solano student email multiple times daily during active waitlist periods, since missing this narrow window due to checking a personal email instead means losing the seat entirely with no appeal described.
