University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Honors College applicants must answer two additional essays (400-500 words each): describing how you've sought academic challenge and personal growth in high school, and how Honors College engagement will extend that growth. Because you have limited total space, pick ONE central experience or theme (not two unrelated ones) that spans both prompts - describe the challenge/growth in Prompt 1, then explicitly connect that same trajectory to a specific, named Honors College opportunity (living-learning community, a research mentor relationship, the capstone project) in Prompt 2, so the two essays read as one coherent argument for your fit rather than disconnected exercises.

UIC's Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions (GPPA) essay (400-500 words) explicitly asks why you prefer guaranteed admission over the traditional application path - not simply why you want the profession. A weak response only explains interest in law, dentistry, medicine, etc.; a strong response explains a specific advantage of early certainty (e.g., years of longitudinal research access with the same graduate faculty, or freedom to take an unconventional undergraduate combination like architecture before law school specifically because guaranteed admission removes the risk). Remember many GPPA programs also require separate Honors College membership and letters of recommendation - confirm your target GPPA program's specific conditions of acceptance (coursework, exam requirements) before applying, since failing these mid-undergraduate can jeopardize the guarantee itself.

Because UIC explicitly builds an "if Undecided" branch into its single required essay rather than penalizing uncertainty, students genuinely torn between fields should use this branch deliberately rather than forcing a false declared major to seem more decisive. Name 2-3 specific areas grounded in classes where you succeeded or specific extracurricular experiences - admissions is evaluating intellectual curiosity and self-awareness here, not premature certainty, so an honest, well-reasoned "Undecided" response can read as stronger than a vague, unconvincing declared-major essay.
