Moorpark College (Mt. SAC) Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Admission Requirements

Moorpark's nationally unique EATM program (the only campus zoo of its kind for community college students) selects its cohort through a random lottery among all complete applicants who attend the mandatory Applicant Information Meeting (AIM) - not by GPA, prior animal experience, or any other competitive factor. With roughly 70-80% of complete applicants typically admitted, the actual strategy is procedural: file a complete application within the Jan. 1-March 15 window, attend AIM, and complete all required prerequisite documentation - there's no way to "strengthen" an application beyond ensuring it's complete and on time.

EATM students report spending 50-60+ hours per week between zoo work, coursework, and study, with the program explicitly requiring physical capabilities (50-pound lifting, rapid walking the zoo's length, work in extreme weather) and carrying real zoonotic disease exposure risk - a fundamentally different time and physical commitment than a typical community college program. A student should honestly assess whether they can sustain this workload (and forgo most outside employment) for two full years before entering the lottery, since withdrawing mid-program means losing a competitive cohort slot that won't be easily regained.

Moorpark explicitly states EATM applications received outside the Jan. 1-March 15 window will not be accepted, with no flexibility cited - and a Bachelor's degree in progress (if relevant to a specific applicant track) must be posted on official transcripts and received by Moorpark by June 30 before a Fall start. A student should map their entire prerequisite course sequence (Applied Wildlife Conservation, Animal Behavior, Animal Diversity, etc.) to be fully complete well ahead of March 15, since this is a hard date with no exceptions.

Since February 2024, Moorpark's CCCApply application requires ID.me identity verification, but the college explicitly provides 24/7 live-chat alternative verification for students without valid identity documents from their country of origin, without a permanent address, or without reliable internet/smartphone access - requiring instead one photo ID and one secondary identity document (pay stub, bill, or birth certificate). A student in any of these situations should use this alternative path proactively rather than assuming the standard ID.me process is the only option.
